Final Results

New York, NY –
The Wagner College swimming and diving team opened up the 2012 calendar year falling to the Ivy League's Columbia University, 169-88, today at Uris Pool.

The loss marks just the second for first year head coach Colin Shannahan, as the Seahawks drop to 7-2 in dual meets, remaining a perfect 4-0 in the Northeast Conference.

The Lions swept the first three events, before freshman Samantha Sides (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) picked up a second place finish in the 50 yard backstroke in a time of 28.45. Sides also earned a silver in the 50 butterfly with a 26.81 finish.

Sophomore Sarah Menendez (Land O'Lakes, FL / Wharton) picked up a second place of her own in the 100 freestyle, finishing the heat in 55.33.

Wagner's first gold came in the 12th event of the day, as sophomore Meredith Ketchmark (Plainsboro, NJ / West Windsor-Plainsboro) placed first in the 500 freestyle, edging out Columbia's Stella Zhao by less than one second, with a time of 5:18.21.

The final two events of the day belonged to the Seahawks, as Morgan Stoner (Greensburg, PA / Hempfield Area Senior), Kelsey Thomas (Hammonton, NJ / Holy Spirit) and Breanne Sweeney (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) swept the 200 individual medley, with Stoner's time of 2:18.08 leading the way.

Wagner's relay teams ended the day on top with Sides and Menendez teaming up with Lynn Tay (Elk Grove, CA / Bradshaw Christian) and Tatum Colitz (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson) to take first place in the 200 freestyle relay. The group of Lauren Meyer (Hamden, CT / Hamden HS), Alexandra Cooney (Port Jervis, NY / Minisink Valley), Kristiana Kalibat (Princeton, NJ / Princeton High) and Mary Courtney Ryan (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph Hill Academy) finished just seconds back for a second place finish.

Coach Shannahan and diving coach Kelly Mohr will host their alma mater's in the Seahawks' next meet, when the Green & White welcome the Rhode Island Rams to the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday, January 21. That meet is slated for a noon start.
