Staten Island, NY -
Fairleigh Dickinson clipped Wagner 2-0 in the first game of a doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Knights scored a pair of runs in the top of the first before denying the Seahawks the rest of the game as the Green & White went just 1-for-13 (.077) with runners on base and 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

FDU improves to 11-32 and 8-18 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while Wagner falls to 17-28 and 11-15 in the league.

The loss spoiled an outstanding effort from RHP Dale Hering (Belle Mead, NJ / Montgomery), who was making his final home start. The fifth-year senior fell to 4-6 despite recording his team-best fifth complete game while striking out three and yielding two runs on four hits and a walk over 7.0 dominating innings. He also posted five 1-2-3 innings while allowing just five base-runners.

The Knights struck for two first-inning runs to open the game's scoring. Ryan Kresky led off with a double before advancing to third on a Steven LaForge single. Brian Dillon plated the pair on the ensuing play with a double down the left field line. The damage could have been worse but Dillon was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple.

After the first three FDU batters hit safely, Hering settled down retiring the next 15 batters he faced before Kresky broke the streak with a one-out double in the top of the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the Seahawk offense could not get anything going during that time, stranding a runner in scoring position in each of the first and third innings.

The Green & White again threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior Hayden Hunter (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame) led off with a single before moving to second on a one-out single from senior Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata). Unfortunately, the pair was left stranded when fifth-year senior RHP Nick Melchiorre induced a pair of outs to second baseman Matt Holsman.

Senior Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the sixth inning but was unable to advance to second before the Seahawks went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Melchiorre (3-7) earned the win, striking out three while yielding four hits and a pair of walks over 5.0 scoreless innings. Senior RHP Zach Kisling fired a scoreless sixth inning before classmate RHP Spencer Kelly recorded a 1-2-3 seventh inning for his eighth save of the year.

Rice led a five-hit Wagner attack, going 2-for-3 highlighted by this double.

Kresky went 2-for-3 with two doubles a run, leading the way for the Knights.
