Staten Island, NY -
Senior RHP Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) struck out a season-high seven while not walking a batter over 6.2 innings of work in leading Wagner to a 2-0 victory over Bryant in the second game of a doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks, who lost the first game 1-0, improve to 10-18 and 8-7 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Bulldogs fall to 12-15 and 4-7 in the league.

Wagner, which managed just three hits for the second-straight game, was able to forge ahead in the bottom of the fifth inning with an unearned run. Senior Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) led off with this hard-hit single before moving to second on a Jack Rice (Sr., Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) sacrifice bunt. Conforti then came around to score on a throwing error by the Bryant second baseman.

After Lucas set the Bulldogs down in order in the top of the sixth inning, senior Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) crushed his team-leading third home run of the year to deep left field, staking the Seahawks to a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lucas struck out pinch-hitter Colin Dougherty on this pitch. After allowing a single, Lucas got Tim Norton to pop out to Rice in foul ground. Lucas then plunked the next batter and was lifted after a season-best 6.2 innings of work. Senior LHP David Rees (Staten Island, NY / Xavier) entered and needed seven pitched to coax David Soltis, Bryant's leading hitter, into a game-ending pop out for his third save of the year.

Lucas (1-4) also recorded three 1-2-3 innings and limited the Bulldogs' first five hitters to a .071 (1-for-14) average with six strikeouts in the game. He has now allowed just two runs over his last three starts while striking out 17, against just five walks, over 18.2 innings and has a 0.96 ERA during that time.

Freshman RHP Craig Schlitter (0-2) was the tough-luck loser for Bryant, striking out four while yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits and a pair of walks over 6.0 innings.

Colin Shepard and Norton each went 2-for-3, leading a six-hit Bulldog attack.

The teams went a combined 3-for-28 (.107) with runners in scoring position in the doubleheader - with Wagner going hitless in 12 attempts - and are now 6-for-46 (.130) on the weekend ...
