Staten Island, NY -
Senior RHP Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) struck out a season-high nine while not walking a batter in leading Wagner to a 5-0 victory over Saint Joseph's while securing a doubleheader sweep at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks have now won five-straight games and six-of-seven while improving to 16-26 as the Hawks fall to 14-28.

After stranding runners in scoring position in each of the first two frames, Wagner finally broke through in the bottom of the third inning with a single score. With two outs, junior Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) singled up for his second hit of the game. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Higgins raced around to score on another wild pitch taking two bases as the Hawk catcher could not locate the errant pitch.

Following an uneventful fourth inning, the Seahawks put the game away with four runs while batting around in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Ian Miller (Downington, PA / Bishop Shanahan) led off with a double to right center. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, the rookie outfielder came around to score Boyd singled against a drawn-in infield. After taking second on another wild pitch, Boyd moved to third on a pop out. Higgins plated Boyd on the ensuing play on a fielder's choice, reaching safely on a fielding error. Senior Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) followed with his third-straight walk before sophomore Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) loaded the bases with a single through the left side. Following a strikeout, junior Hayden Hunter (Santa Monica, CA / Notre Dame) crushed a fly ball to left field that bounced over the wall, plating Higgins and McDonnell while giving the Green & White an insurmountable 5-0 advantage.

On the mound, Lucas didn't need the extra offensive help as he had his A-game all night. Lucas fanned two in each of his first three innings while allowing just two hits during that time. After allowing a lead-off single in the top of the fourth inning the hard-throwing righthander retired the next seven batters he faced before Saint Joseph's mustered a one-out single in the top of the sixth inning. However, that runner would be erased on the next play as Lucas induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play while capping a solid 6.0 innings of work.

Senior LHP David Rees (Staten Island, NY / Xavier) relieved Lucas in the seventh, closing out the doubleheader sweep with a perfect seventh inning.

Lucas (3-5) picked up his third win in his last four starts, striking out nine while not walking a batter over 6.0 dominating innings. In his last six starts, he has fanned 33 over his last 37.2 innings while posting a 1.43 ERA. On the year, he has 39 strikeouts and a 3.88 ERA over 55.2 innings of work.

Saint Joseph's RHP Kyle Mullen (4-5) was saddled with the loss, allowing on run on five hits, four walks and three wild pitches over 2.2 innings.

Boyd led a 10-hit Wagner attack, going 3-for-4 with a run, RBI and his team-best 15th multi-hit game while raising his average to .335. Alfano, Higgins and Hunter also stood out, recording a pair of hits.
