West Long Branch, NJ - After Wagner grabbed a 1-0 lead in the game's opening inning, Monmouth struck for 10 unanswered runs en route to a 10-1 victory at the MU Baseball FIeld.
The Seahawks fall to 10-22 and 8-10 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Hawks improve to 18-13 and 13-5 in the NEC.
For the second-straight game Wagner struck first, plating a run in the game's opening inning. Junior
Eddie Brown (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph's (Metuchen))
led off with this single up the middle. After moving to second on a
Seth Boyd (Sr., Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) sacrifice bunt, Brown scored on a
Tommy Higgins (Jr., Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic)
single to right field as the Seahawks took an early 1-0 lead.
Senior RHP
Dale Hering (Belle Mead, NJ / Montgomery) kept the momentum going with a solid 1-2-3 bottom of the first, highlighted by
this strikeout of Ryan Terry for the third out.
Monmouth got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Nick Pulsonetti hit a wind-aided home run over the left field fence, while plating Danny Avella and giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead.
Terry extended the Monmouth lead out to 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning with a sacrifice fly, chasing in Jamie Rosenkranz, who led off the frame with a double to left field.
The Hawks pushed the lead out to 5-1 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on Josh Boyd's two-run, two-out triple to center field.
Wagner threatened to get back in the game in the top of the fifth as sophomore

delivered this single to right center before freshman

laced this single up the middle. Unfortunately, the runners would fail to advance as Monmouth starter RHP Andy McDonnell and a pair of relievers retired the next three batters without incident.
The Hawks added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in extending their lead to 8-1.Terry delivered a one-out home run to center field before Monmouth scored a pair of unearned runs.
Terry completed the scoring one inning later with a two-run home run while providing the final 10-1 tally.
Ramirez led a six-hit Seahawk attack, going 2-for-2 while Higgins also reached safely twice, going 1-for-2 with a RBI single, stolen base and walk.
Standing out for Hawks was Terry, who went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI, and Pulsonetti, who was 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs.
McDonnell (3-0) earned the win, yielding one run on five hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. Matt Frazier earned his third save of the year, striking out two over 2.1 hitless frames.
Hering (3-4), who pitched his third-straight complete game, was saddled with the loss, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
The teams will conclude their four game series with a doubleheader tomorrow at 1:00 pm. Game one will be a seven-inning affair, while game two will be a nine-inning contest.
