Men’s Lacrosse Drops 17-5 Decision At Rutgers

BOX SCORE

Piscataway, NJ -
Sophomore attack Cody Isdaner (Gladwyne, PA / Episcopal Academy) picked up where he left off last season with three goals but Rutgers received four goals from Scott Klimchak in posting a 17-5 victory in the season opener for both teams.

As a freshman, Isdaner led the 2010 Seahawks in scoring with 27 points, was second on the team in goals with 17 and led the team with 10 assists en route to being named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Rookie Team.

The Scarlet Knights built a 4-1 lead after one quarter and extended the lead to 10-2 at halftime as Klimchak scored all four of his goals in the opening stanza. With Wagner trailing 4-0, Isdaner scored the Seahawks' first goal of the season with 3:57 left in the opening quarter on a play that head coach Jason Rife designed during a timeout taken at the 4:17 mark. Rutgers increased its lead to 9-1 before sophomore midfielder Brian Faughnan (New Canaan, CT/ New Canaan) found the back of the nest with 6:40 remaining in the opening half.

Rutgers opened the second half with a 5-0 splurge to increase its lead to 15-2 before freshman attack Sam Morrissey (Long Valley NJ/ West Morris Central) notched his first career goal with 12:55 left in the third quarter. An Isdaner goal with 4:26 left in the game made it a 16-4 game before sophomore midfielder Krey Keller (Colorado Springs, CO/ Cheyenne Mountain) rounded out the day's scoring with a goal at the 1:37 mark of the fourth quarter.

Freshman goalie Nicholas Gibaldi (Rocky Point, NY/ Rocky Point) recorded 11 saves while playing the first three quarters of the game before giving way to junior Peter Rubin (East Rockaway, NY/ East Rockaway) who came up with two saves while seeing action in the entire fourth quarter.

Rutgers outshot Wagner 41-21 and held a 31-16 edge in ground balls while winning 20-of-26 faceoffs.

Wagner is next in action on Saturday, Feb. 26 when the Seahawks host Providence at Wagner College Stadium. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
