Staten Island, NY - Wagner defeated Quinnipiac 10-2 while completing a four-game series sweep at Richmond County Bank Ballpark, closing out the 2010 Regular Season in style. 10 different players hit safely, including all nine starters, as the Seahawks pounded out 18 hits en route to scoring in double-digits during league play for just the fourth time all year.
Wagner, which improves to 25-29 and 17-15 in the NEC, will be the No. 3 seed in the 2010 Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament and will play No. 2 CCSU on Thursday, May 27 at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ at 3:30 pm. Live video and audio will be provided via
Northeast Conference TV. No. 1 Sacred Heart will square off with No. 4 Monmouth in the other half of the double-elimination tournament.
The Seahawks scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back, plating single runs in each of the next four frames before putting another three-spot up in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Junior
Brian Martutartus (Carlsbad, CA / La Costa Canyon) again led the way, going 3-for-4 while notching his seventh-straight multi-hit game and extending his hitting streak to nine games. In eight games over the last two conference weekends at CCSU and against Quinnipiac, he is batting .613 (19-31), including .688 against the Bobcats, with eight runs, five doubles, one triple, one home run and eight RBI while posting a .935 slugging percentage.
Classmate
Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) also notched three hits in five trips to the plate while scoring two runs.
Seniors
Damian Csakai (Freehold Township, NJ / Freehold Township) and
Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) concluded their home careers in style. Csakai went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while Avella was 2-for-5 with a double while matching the single-season RBI record of 56.

Matt Logan (Wall, NJ / Wall) and freshman
Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) rounded out the Seahawks with multiple-hits.

Christian Rautenstrauch (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day) started and struck out four over 4.0 innings of two-run ball before exiting with the lead. Classmate RHP
Dakota Dvorak (Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep) earned his first collegiate win against no losses, working a 1-2-3 fifth inning. Four other pitchers combined to limit Quinnipiac to just one hit while striking out four over the final 4.0 innings.
Senior RHP Todd DeFrancesco (0-5) took the loss, yielding seven runs, six earned, on 14 hits over 6.0 innings of work.
