Moon Township, Pa. –The Robert Morris University Colonials remained unblemished at home when they notched a 21-8 victory over the Wagner Seahawks on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.
Wagner was led by two goals apiece by senior attackman
Evan Shull (Port Jefferson Station, NY / Comsewogue) and sophomore midfielder
Will Macumber (Manorville, NY / Eastport South Manor), along with 12 saves from freshman goalie
Peter Rubin (East Rockaway, NY / East Rockaway).
The Colonials are now 6-0 at home and 7-2 overall, while Wagner falls to 1-6.
Corbyn Tao-Brambleby led the way for the Colonials with a season-high five goals in the win, while also adding three assists for an eight-point game. Brandon Johnson and Dave Morton added three goals apiece for RMU while Trevor Moore chipped in with two goals and a game-high four assists.
The Colonials controlled the face-off circle, winning 22-of-33 and led in shots (42-30) and ground balls (41-27). Sal Barcia and Dillon Pope split time in the net and combined for 11 saves, with Barcia allowing just one goal in 30 minutes of action.
The Colonials had the Seahawks on their heels early, blitzing Wagner with eight straight goals in taking a commanding 8-0 lead after one quarter. RMU built the lead to 14-1 at halftime by out-scoring the Seahawks 6-1 in the second quarter.
Wagner started to clink in the fourth quarter, tallying the first three goals of the final stanza in a 1:41 burst that cut the Colonial lead to 19-7. A Macumber goal was sandwiched around a pair of Shull tallies during this three-goal rally. Robert Morris would score two more times while Wagner netted one more goal to finalize the score at 21-8.
The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, March 21 when they host Providence in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season opener at Wagner College Stadium. Face-off is set for 2:00 pm.
