Freshman forward Kerstie Phills (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Christian) scored in double figures in five of Wagner’s six games during the month of December while leading the team in both scoring (12.8 ppg.) and rebounding (6.5 rpg.) while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and 73.7 percent from the free throw line. Phills began the month with a 10-point, five-rebound game vs. Penn (12/3) and followed that effort with an 11-point, seven-rebound effort at Army (12/5). The 5-9 North Carolinian made it three straight double-digit games with 11 points vs. Albany (12/10). Following an eight-point game at Big East member St. John’s (12/17), Phills capped the month with a then career-high 16-point performance at Ivy League power Princeton (12/21), which earned her NEC Rookie of the Week honors. She then followed with a career-high 20-point contest in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener at Central Connecticut (12/31).
