Baseball Rolls to 15-5 Win over Delaware State, Claims Seventh NEC Series

DOVER, Del. — Wagner baseball erupted for 15 runs in the series finale, defeating Delaware State, 15-5, on Sunday afternoon to earn the series win.

The Seahawks broke the game open in the third inning, scoring four runs on three hits. Graduate student Lukas Torres delivered the big blow with a two-run double, while junior Jackson Blakley followed with a two-run single to give Wagner a 4-0 lead.

Delaware State answered in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run home run to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Green & White added three runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors before junior Jayden Alvarez drove in two with a single to extend the lead to 7-3. Wagner continued to apply pressure in the sixth, scoring three more runs, highlighted by a double steal that allowed Torres to swipe home and push the advantage to 9-3. Junior Dylan Immel later added an RBI single to score senior Nicholas Mazzotta and give the Seahawks a 10-3 lead.

Wagner stayed hot in the seventh, plating four runs behind a two-RBI double from Torres and an RBI double from Mazzotta, along with an RBI groundout from junior Joseph Mennella that brought Mazzotta home to make it 14-4.

Following a Delaware State home run in the seventh, Torres reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Blakley to score from third for Wagner's 15th run of the afternoon.

The Hornets were held scoreless over the final two innings as Wagner secured its seventh conference series win of the season.

Torres led the offensive attack, finishing 2-for-5 with a career-high five RBIs and three runs scored. Mazzotta added three hits, while Alvarez and Blakley each drove in two runs. The Seahawks showed patience at the plate, drawing 14 walks and swiping seven stolen bases in the win.

On the mound, senior Justin Roitman got the start and worked 2.1 innings before junior Keith Davis and sophomore Frankie Nardo combined to close out the game. Nardo earned the save, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing one run and striking out three.

Wagner finished with 15 runs on 10 hits, while Delaware State totaled five runs on seven hits.
