NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Wagner posted 13 team points on the opening day of the 2026 NEC Outdoor Championships.
Sophomore Kate Connolly opened the day on the women's side, completing the 10,000m in 40:50.21 to finish eighth and score Wagner's first points of the meet. In long jump, sophomore Mia Petersen logged a 5.49m jump to finish sixth for the Seahawks. Competing down the road at a separate location for the throwers, junior Dayana Rodriguez posted a 47.57m hammer throw to finish in fifth.
Junior June Fernandez had the fastest time of the 400m preliminary heats, running a 58.96-second time to earn a place in Sunday's final. Sophomore Jasmine Burney's 1:00.12 time also earns her a spot in the final.
In the 100m preliminary, sophomore Christine Manneh earns a spot in Sunday's final with 12.17-second time in the qualifying heats. She also qualified for the 200m, finishing second overall in the heats with a 25.09-second time.
Sophomore Ariel Kovach logged a 16.75-second time in the 100m hurdles preliminary to finish 15th. Representing the Seahawks in high jump, freshman Rikayla Bingham tied for 11th with a 1.45m clearance.
Sunday's field events will begin with the javelin throw at 8:30 a.m. EDT, then track events will start with the steeplechase, scheduled for 12:55 p.m. EDT.
