PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Wagner has won seven in a row with a 15-3, seven-inning win over UMES on Sunday, taking its second NEC series sweep of the season.
With the win, the Seahawks move to 21-19 overall and 17-7 in NEC play. All seven wins in the streak have come on the road. Wagner is now 12-3 in the month of April.
Tied at 1-1 through four innings, Wagner exploded for eight runs in the fifth on five hits, four walks and two errors, then came back and added five more runs in the seventh to bring the run-rule into play.
Senior Justin Roitman improves to 5-0 this season after a 5.1-inning start where he allowed just one run on five hits, striking out four Hawks. Sophomore Frankie Nardo closed out the game for the Seahawks.
Junior Joseph Mennella, continuing a hot week where he finished 10-for-17 in five games, was 3-for-4 on Sunday with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Batting fifth just behind Mennella, junior Dylan Immel was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. This is Immel's third multi-hit game of the week.
Wagner's top two hitters in the order, graduate Lukas Torres and sophomore Matt Sutera were 2-for-3 and 1-for-4 respectively with a pair of RBIs apiece. Torres scored three runs and walked twice, while Sutera's hit was a massive two-RBI single in the fifth to put Wagner up 4-1.
Junior Jackson Blakley had one of his biggest days as a Seahawk, 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored on a double and a triple. It was an RBI double in the second to put Wagner up 1-0, then a bases-emptying triple came with the bases loaded in the fifth, scoring three runs to blow the game open for a 9-1 Wagner lead.
A one-out RBI single from sophomore Jayden Alvarez in the fifth broke the tie to put Wagner up 2-1, then Torres walked to load the bases. Sutera hit his two-RBI single, which then had a pair of runners in scoring position for a sacrifice fly from junior Diego Tavarez. Sutera moved to second on an error then scored on an RBI single from Mennella, which forced UMES to go to the bullpen with Wagner leading 6-1. With Elijah Benton in to pitch, he put loaded the bases after giving up a single and a walk. Blakey hit his triple, the sixth by a Seahawk this season and the third this week. The hit put Wagner up 9-1 then Benton was able to record the third out two hitters later.
In the seventh, Blakley was hit by a pitch leading off, following by a walk to sophomore Andrew Marquis and a sacrifice from senior Emmett Coco to put both runners in scoring position. Torres hit a two-RBI double to left field, putting Wagner ahead 12-1 to bring the run-rule into effect. Torres scored later on an error and an RBI triple from Mennella scored junior Matthew Moconyi, who had reached on the error. An RBI single from Immel scored Mennella to make it a 15-1 game before the Hawks recorded the final out.
The eight-run fifth and five-run seventh were the 14th and 15th time this season the Seahawks have scored five or more runs in an inning. Six of those 15 innings have been in the team's five games this week.
Next up, the Seahawks will host Saint Peter's at SIUH Community Park on Tuesday, April 28 for a 7 p.m. EDT game that will mark Wagner's final midweek game of the 2026 season.
