BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Senior midfielder
Jake Mitchell was named NEC Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The honor marks the first of Mitchell's career.
Mitchell recorded a career-high six goals while adding one assist, to lead the Seahawks to a 16–14 victory over NJIT. His six goals are the most by a Seahawk in a single game since William McMenamin scored six on March 15, 2016. Mitchell scored five of his six goals in the second half of Wagner's win over NJIT.
Through six games this season, the St. Louis, Mo., native leads the Green & White with 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists.
Mitchell's recognition also marks the third consecutive week a Seahawk has earned a major NEC award, following
Dylan Popehn (Rookie of the Week) and
Angus Snow (Defensive Player of the Week).
Along with Mitchell, sophomore
Cole Yoshioka and freshman
Dylan Popehn were tabbed as Week 5 NEC Prime Performers for their outings against the Highlanders.
Mitchell and the Seahawks return to action on Saturday, March 14, when they travel to face LIU. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Shark Stadium.
