Women’s Basketball Heads to Le Moyne for Thursday Matchup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —
The Wagner College women's basketball team travels to Le Moyne for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, Feb. 5 at Ted Grant Court.

Wagner (10-11, 6-4 NEC) fell at FDU last time out but has emerged victorious in four out of its last five NEC games. 

Last time out the Seahawks outscored the Knights 17-10 in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead down to as little as five points with 49 seconds to play. FDU (19-4, 10-0 NEC) built a 42-28 lead after three quarters of action and came away with a seven points victory.

Senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya and junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor led Wagner with 10 points apiece. Fernandez de Caleya grabbed seven rebounds while Modesayor corralled six. Sophomore Keana Foz scored eight points, all of which were in the fourth quarter.

The Knights outscored the Seahawks 13-2 in second chance points. FDU snagged 19 offensive rebounds while Wagner only grabbed six. 

Since the start of the new year, Foz ranks tied-for-third in steals per game within the NEC at 2.4 steals per contest. 

Since the start of conference play, senior Hawa Balde-Camara sits second in the conference in blocks per game with 1.5. Both Foz and Balde-Camara ended last season in first place in their respective categories. 

As a team, the Seahawks ranks first in the NEC in steals per game with 9.48 and sit in second in blocks per game with 3.43.

Currently, Wagner holds the fourth seed in the conference standings, one game behind Mercyhurst (7-14, 7-3 NEC) and one game ahead of New Haven (7-14, 5-5).  

The Seahawks were picked to finish seventh in the conference's preseason coaches poll.

Last time out, Le Moyne (5-18, 3-7 NEC) fell by a score of 79-52 at Stonehill on Saturday. Nick Gaitley DiPillo takes the helm of the Le Moyne coaching staff and is in his second full season with the Dolphins.

Junior Ashley Buragas leads the Dolphins' offense averaging 11.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Guard Sierra Linnin follows with 9.6 points per game and 3.4 rebounds. Among the NEC, Le Moyne ranks fourth in made three-pointers per game with 6.6. Le Moyne was picked fourth in the NEC preseason coaches poll.

The all-time record between these two programs is 3-2 in favor of the Dolphins. Earlier this season, Wagner defeated Le Moyne 59-45 at the Spiro Sports Center. The Seahawks are 0-2 at Ted Grant Court. 

After taking on the Dolphins, Wagner heads to CCSU for a 4 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Detrick Gymnasium.
