RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Wagner fell in its second game at UC Riverside, scoring two runs in the second before ultimately losing 7-2.
In the second, the Seahawks loaded the bases — a leadoff single from junior Joseph Mennella, a walk to junior Evan McRae, a hit-by-pitch for sophomore Matt Sutera — with sophomore Jayden Alvarez due up. Alvarez was hit like Sutera, pushing one run in, then a groundout from redshirt freshman Dylan Simeone sent McRae home.
Graduate Lukas Torres finished 2-of-4 with a walk, with junior Joseph Mennella going down as the second Seahawk with a multi-hit game. Wagner's only other hit came via a pinch hit opportunity for junior Josiah Ross, where he sent a single up the middle in the ninth.
McRae and Torres have each reached base in all five games this season. Torres has currently reached base in 25 consecutive games, a streak that dates back to April 2025.
Each of Wagner's three pitchers went 2.2 innings — freshman Gavin Townsend, senior Justin Roitman and redshirt junior Braden Lowe. Townsend continues to avoid walking batters, allowing just two across his 5.1 innings of work.
Roitman struck out four in a hitless outing, allowing two runs across 14 batters faced. His six strikeouts this season are tied with senior Colin Triztuo for most on the team. Lowe, closing things out, allowed just one run to score, striking out two in his second outing of the season.
Next up, the Seahawks have the series finale on Sunday, Feb. 21. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. PST, which will be 3 p.m. EST. A radio broadcast of the game will be available
