STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College women's basketball team suffered a 73-67 loss to the Mercyhurst Lakers on Thursday night at the Spiro Sports Center.
The Seahawks (11-14, 7-7 NEC) began the game on an 11-0 run after three-and-a-half minutes of action. Redshirt junior Klea Kaci started off strong with seven points on a perfect 3-3 from the field. As a team, Wagner shot 7-12 (58.3%) from the floor in the first 10 minutes of play, nailing both of its three-point attempts.
The Lakers (10-4, 10-15 NEC) did not go away quickly and brought the game within one-point at the first quarter's conclusion. Mercyhurst shot 6-8 (75.0%) from the foul line, led by guard Jenna Van Schaik who scored 11 in the opening frame.
In the second quarter, Wagner caught fire and produced its highest-scoring quarter of the 2025-26 season by dropping 29 points on 10-17 (58.8%) from the field and 4-6 (66.7%) from deep. Sophomore Keana Foz scored 11 points with two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in her 10 minutes on the floor.
During the frame, Wagner outscored Mercyhurst 7-0 in points off turnovers and 10-6 off of points in the paint.
At the half, the Green & White held a 47-33 lead over the Lakers.
Mercyhurst chipped away at another Wagner lead during the third period, outscoring the Seahawks by nine, 18-9, to trail by five heading into the final quarter. During the third, Mercyhurst scored 10 points off turnovers while holding Wagner to zero points in the category.
With 4:39 remaining in the fourth, Mercyhurst tied the score at 61 right before a media timeout. Mercyhurst outscored Wagner 12-6 in the final half of the fourth period to prevail, 73-67.
The Lakers scored 40 points in the second half to the Seahawks' 20. During the final 20 minutes of the game, Mercyhurst scored 18 points off turnovers while Wagner scored none.
Mercyhurst shot 23-32 (71.9%) from the foul line while Wagner shot 10-12 (83.3%).
