BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Wagner sophomore Julia de Leeuw has been selected NEC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
De Leeuw is coming off a three-point game at Quinnipiac on October 2 where she scored her second goal of the season, the game winner, and tallied an assist to Gabrielle Childs in the team's gritty 2-1 win.
The sophomore finished that game against the Bobcats with three of Wagner's eight shots on goal. Her 589 minutes played in 2026 lead the team and she is one of six Seahawks to have started in all 10 games of the season.
Alongside de Leeuw, Wagner goalkeeper Mia DiGenova was named an NEC Prime Performer. Against Quinnipiac, the first-year Seahawk logged six saves and faced 12 shots. DiGenova has played all 180 minutes of conference play and boasts a .900 save percentage.
Wagner has been on a major momentum swing, dropping its first six games of nonconference play before opening its NEC slate and going on a four-win streak. Now 4-6 on the season, the Seahawks' perfect 3-0 NEC record has them sitting atop the conference standings.
Next up, the Seahawks host Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Wagner Field Hockey Complex for a 3 p.m. EDT matchup.
