BRIDGEPORT, N.J. — Wagner College field hockey senior forward Floortje Leunisse attained her second NEC 'Offensive Player of the Week' nod following her second hat-trick performance of the season against LIU, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Against the Sharks, Leunisse tallied three goals in three quarters to obtain her second career hat-trick. With her performance, Leunisse became the first Seahawk in recorded program history (since 2019) to record a hat-trick in two separate games. Earlier this season against Hofstra, Leunisse scored three goals to earn the Breda, Netherlands native's first career hat-trick. Leunisse was named the conference's 'Offensive Player of the Week' days later.
On the season, Leunisse has scored six goals and added three assists to total 15 points. Leunisse leads the Seahawks in goals (6), points (15), and shots on goal (27).
Over her four-year career, Leunisse has recorded 25 goals to go along with 17 assists and nine game-winning goals. Leunisse has earned four NEC 'Offensive Player of the Week' awards during her time as a Seahawk.
Currently, Leunisse sits four points and two goals behind the program's all-time record in both categories. Leunisse has scored 25 goals during her tenure and totaled 67 points. Julia Cruces Pastorino ranks first in both stats with 26 career goals and 70 career points.
Leunisse joins forward graduate student Feli Herrero-Martel as the two Seahawks who have received the NEC's 'Offensive Player of the Week' distinction this season.
Back on Saturday, Sept. 19, Herrero-Martel scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Mercyhurst, helping the Green & White secure their first win of the season.
Two days later, the Buenos Aires, Argentina native scored one goal and tallied one assist in Wagner's 4-1 win over Lehigh. Herrero-Martel accounted for all three points in the first half against the Mountain Hawks.
Herrero-Martel accounted for seven-points (3G, 1A) throughout a 2-0 weekend for the Seahawks.
Leunisse, Herrero-Martel, and the rest of the Seahawks continue their postseason push at Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 2 on Alumni Turf in Hamden, Connecticut.
