Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire - Wagner College women's basketball guard Priscila Varela will represent the Wagner Seahawks at the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket Tournament while playing for the Angolan National Team from Friday, July 25 to Sunday, August 3.
Varela and 23 other have been preselected to make up the Senior Angolan National Team that will square-off against Egypt on Sunday, July 27 at 11:00 am before facing-off against host-squad Côte d'Ivoire at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 28 in the Group Phase of the tournament. 
Angola earned a spot in the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket after a 65-58 victory over Mozambique in the Zone 6 FIBA AfroBasket qualifier last year. 
The 12-team field plays host to Angola, Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, Egypt, Guinea, Senegal, South Sudan, Nigeria, Rwanda, Mali, Mozambique, and Cameroon. Bracket play begins on Wednesday, July 30 with the Championship game set for August 3 in Abidjan. 
Varela, a recently signed transfer from Idaho State, appeared in 20 games with the Bengals during the 2024-25 season, scoring a season-high eight points to go along with four rebounds in the season opener against Arizona Christian on November 4. 
Prior to her stint at Idaho State, the Cabinda, Angola native spent two seasons at Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ. 
Fellow Seahawk and teammate junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor took part in FIBA's 2024 AfroBasket qualifier with the Nigerian U18 national team last September, falling to Mali in the title match to take home second for its respective region.
