Teaneck, NJ — After a quick venue change due to stormy weather, the Seahawks settled back into FDU's Naimoli Family Baseball Complex and took home a 21-4 win in seven innings.
It was an explosive game from the beginning, with Wagner scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first before adding 11 more in the third to immediately put the game in run-rule territory.
The Seahawks scored seven runs on five hits in the first, then 11 runs on eight hits in the third.
Starting pitcher Colin Trizuto held the Hornets scoreless through three innings, until a solo home run left the yard to break the shutout. Trizuto finished with 5.0 innings pitched, allowing just two runs on a pair of solo home runs and striking out four. Junior Jason Masick closed things out with a two-inning outing where he struck out two Delaware State batters.
Sophomore Joseph Mennella, sophomore Diego Tavarez, freshman Matt Sutera and senior Mateo Matthews each hit a home run during the game — Mennella had a three-run blast to center field in the first, Tavarez had a three-run homer of his own in the third, Sutera added a grand slam in the third, and Matthews had a two- and three-run shot in the first and third.
Graduate Lukas Torres was 1-of-2 with a double, finishing his day with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Junior Nicholas Mazzotta was 2-of-3 with a pair of doubles. Tavarez finished his day 2-of-3 with a pair of runs scored and four RBIs. Mennella was 1-of-2 with the three RBIs and a walk. Freshman Jayden Alvarez collected his first career hit, replacing Roche at third base and dropping a double down before eventually scoring on a double from junior Emmett Coco, who was 2-of-2 with three RBIs from a pair of doubles after replacing Matthews at first. Sutera, with the biggest hit of the day, finished 2-of-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
