Teaneck, NJ — In the final game of the 2025 regular season, Wagner put up a program-high 26 runs to beat Delaware State 26-3 for the fifth Northeast Conference series sweep of the season.
It was an onslaught of offense from the Seahawks, with a single run in the first being followed by seven, three, three and twelve runs scored in the third through the sixth.
Graduate Lukas Torres led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, finishing his day at 3-of-3 with a pair of RBIs and a walk. Entering as a defensive replacement for Torres, sophomore Leo Doyle was 1-of-2 with an RBI.
Starting pitcher Heitaro Hayashi earns the win with a five-inning, three-run outing where he struck out three Hornets. He is now 6-1 this season. Juniors Justin Roitman and Nicholas Mazzotta threw an inning apiece in relief to end the game.
Mazzotta was 3-of-3 at the place with three runs scored, followed by sophomore Diego Tavarez who went 5-of-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored — the top three hitters in the order combined for 11 hits on Saturday.
Sophomore Christian Knight entered the game as designated hitter and had a 2-o-f 2day, scoring two runs. Freshman Jayden Alvarez, on the weekend of his first collegiate plate appearance, was 1-of-1 with an RBI and a run scored.
Senior Jeremy Delamota was 2-of-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Connor Roche was 4-of-6 with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Graduate catcher Xavier Ulrich was the other Seahawk with multiple hits, 2-of-3 with two RBIs.
Fourteen different Seahawks accounted for at least one RBI. Six logged a double and five home runs were hit.
In the third, Wagner scored seven runs on seven hits and left the bases loaded. In the fourth, it was three runs on five hits. In the fifth, three runs scored on three hits, then in the sixth, the team scored an emphatic 12 runs on 11 hits to wrap things up.
With the weekend's wins, the Seahawks have secured the second-place seed at the NEC Tournament. Round one will be played Thursday, May 22 in Wrappingers Falls, New York at Heritage Financial Park.
Wagner will play CCSU in the second game of the day on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The tournament is double-elimination style. Friday's game between the losing teams on Thursday will be played at noon, then the two winning teams will play at 4 p.m. EST.
