Bridgewater, NJ - Junior defender Erin Rooney has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week for her performances against Columbia and Le Moyne, announced by the conference on Monday.
The Arthur, Ontario native has started in nine games she has appeared in. Most recently, Rooney corralled three ground balls and caused three turnovers against Ivy League member Columbia on Wednesday before leading a defensive charge that allowed one first half goal to Le Moyne on Saturday.
Against the Dolphins, Rooney collected six ground balls and caused a career-high five turnovers in an 11-7 win that marked the fourth consecutive conference victory for the Seahawks this year.
During her third season on Grymes Hill, Rooney leads the Seahawks in ground balls collected with 25 and is second on the roster in caused turnovers with 14.
Across her three seasons as a member of the Seahawks, Rooney has appeared in 26 games, starting 23, and has recorded 35 ground balls, caused 25 turnovers, and collected one draw control at Stonehill.
Rooney is the second Seahawk to earn the conference's 'Defensive Player of the Week' nod this season, as graduate student Ryan Murphy earned the distinction back on March 24 after collecting a season-high four ground balls, four draw controls, and caused a season-high four turnovers to lead a Seahawks defense that allowed a season-low five goals in an 11-5 victory in Loretto, PA.
The last time two different Seahawks won the NEC's Defensive Player of the Week award in the same season was back during the 2023 campaign when Aileen Hannan and Lauren DiStefano both received the conference's award multiple times throughout the year.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Delaware State to take on the Hornets on Wednesday, April 9 in Dover, DE. Opening draw control is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
