TYRONE, Pa. — Junior Rylee Ferretti crossed the finish line in first, leading the Seahawks on the way to a second-place team finish at the 2025 NEC Championship.
Her time led the way for Wagner's women to finish in second place with 67 points, the team's best finish since winning the title in 1993. Third-place Saint Francis U also scored 67 points, but the Seahawks won the tiebreaker with their individual placings. CCSU repeated to once again take home the championship with 51 team points.
Ferretti is the first Wagner woman to win the individual title in 24 years, after Karina Acevedo last won for the Seahawks in 2001. It was a 22:19.50 time for Ferretti in the first-ever 6K for the conference championship, winning by a six-second margin. She stayed with the lead pack through two laps before making a massive surge to secure the win in the final 2K.
She earned All-NEC honors for the second consecutive season. Senior Laura Trenado was just behind in sixth, finishing with a 22:49.80 time to earn her second consecutive All-NEC honor as well.
Senior Angela Cavalieri was Wagner's third finisher, logging a 23:58.10 finish to land in 15th. Juniors Magui Calvo-Jorge and Victoria Ann Dziubela rounded out the scoring contingent for the Seahawks, with Calvo-Jorge finishing in 24:28.80 for 22nd and Dziubela just behind with a 24:35.30 time in 23rd.
Freshman Jazlene Merizalde ran a 25:07.00 time in her first postseason race, with fellow freshman Rehanna Syed running a 25:51.90 race and rounding out the Wagner runners.
Next, the Seahawks will have NCAA Regionals in Hopkinton, New Hampshire at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds on Friday, Nov. 14.
