NEW HAVEN, CT — The swimming & diving teams both defeated Southern Connecticut at the Hutchison Natatorium to earn their first meet wins of the season on Friday. The men's team beat SCSU 220-74, while the women's team won 156-132. The women's team additionally dropped their match against CCSU in the same meet, 120-140.
The women's team picked up eight event wins throughout the night. Sophomore
Mia Goodale, who won NEC Swimmer of the Week two weeks prior, picked up where she left off by winning the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Goodale also joined sophomores
Gaya Savran and
Lovisa Ramsten, and senior
Lia Vendel in winning the 200-yard medley relay.
Savran also continued her success during the season by winning both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly.
The men's team won 14 of the 16 events against SCSU, including both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore
Florian Schumich won the 1000-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard individual medley. Schumich also won the 200-yard medley relay with juniors
Senan Noonan and
Manuel Chavez Villalpando, and senior
Joel Knaapi.
Villalpando and Schumich, along with Noonan, sophomore
Ben McLaughlin, and senior
Nikko Carrillo each won multiple events on Friday.
The Seahawks return to the pool on Saturday, November 8, as they will take on LIU at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn.
