Cross Country Opens 2024 Season At Stony Brook Invite On Saturday

Stony Brook, NY - The Wagner College men's and women's cross country teams will officially begin their 2024 campaign on Saturday at the Stony Brook Invite.

The women will begin their day at 10:30 A.M and the men will start shortly after at 11:15 A.M. The women were picked to finish third in this year's NEC Coaches Preseason Poll. As for the men, they will be going for their fourth conference title in the last six years. The Seahawks were picked to finish second in this year's annual poll. 

At last year's NEC Championship meet, the women's team finished fifth with a total score of 110, with four athletes placing in the top 30. Junior Laura Trenado led with a 5th place finish and a time of 18:49.10. Senior Gia Comerford tallied a 14th place finish and time of 19:26.50. Graduate Students Elizabeth Szambel and Ana Blanco Duran finished twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth, respectively, with times of 20:07.20 and 20:12.50.

Trenado and Comerford both come into this season being named to the All-NEC team last season. 

On the men's side, the Seahawks finished fourth with a total score of 80, with four returners recording top 50 times. Senior Johnny Sokoll finished 16th with a time of 26:18.20. Senior Michael Ryan and Matthew Seta finished 24th and 34th respectively with times of 26:55.30 and 27:43.40. Sophomore Eric Marquez tallied a time of 28:13.20.

Following the Stony Brook Invite, Wagner will travel to New Britain, CT for the Ted Owen Invite hosted by CCSU on Saturday, September 21st.
