Union, NJ - The Wagner baseball team fell to Sacred Heart in the series finale on Saturday at Jim Hynes Baseball Stadium at Kean University, 3-1.
Sophomore Ryan Bilka did a stellar job on the mound, keeping the Seahawks within striking distance despite coughing up two runs.
Bilka struck out nine Pioneers and allowed five hits through six innings of work. Senior Julian Taudin-Chabot was just as impressive, striking out six batters over his three innings in relief.
But as strong as the pitching was, the Pioneers found cracks in the third, sixth and eighth innings. Wagner broke through in the bottom of the eighth on a single from junior Albert Serrano, however, that was all it would get.
Wagner fell to 22-24 and 19-8 in conference as it missed a chance to take outright possession of first place in the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings.
Another huge test awaits this upcoming weekend when the Seahawks travel to Long Island to take on LIU. Game one on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
