Easton, MA - The Wagner College softball team split its doubleheader against Stonehill Sunday, April 7 winning the first game with a score of 11-7 and dropping the second game with a score of 4-6.Â
Game One Recap: Wagner 11-7 StonehillÂ
The Seahawks came out swinging in the top of the first scoring four runs off of five hits. The momentum was started by sophomore Payton Janicki as she homered, scoring freshman Lea Rachal before junior Kate Wolf doubled, scoring two more.Â
Senior Samantha Tran and Rachal both singled to start the second inning before Janicki sent Tran and Rachal home off of an RBI single to first base. A bases loaded walk from Stonehill put the score at 7-0 for the next two innings.Â
In the fourth, Wagner scored their eighth run off of a sacrifice fly by junior Justine Carranza.Â
The Skyhawks battled back in the fifth and seventh inning but the Seahawks put up another four runs in the fifth and sixth inning to secure the 11-7 victory.Â
In the circle for game one was sophomore Natalie Rodriguez. Rodriguez pitched five innings for the Seahawks only giving up four runs off of four hits.Â
Game Two Recap: Wagner 4-6 StonehillÂ
The first three innings were quiet for both teams until the Seahawks scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning with Carranza driving an RBI single to center field.Â
In the top of the fifth inning the Seahawks put another three runs on the board with a rally lead by Tran with a triple down the left field line scoring sophomore Jordyn Dulken.Â
The Skyhawks tied it up in the fifth and sixth inning before walking it off in the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run.Â
Next up, the Seahawks will host CCSU Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.Â
