AUSTIN, Texas — The Wagner College softball team concluded its historic 2026 season with a 9-0 loss to Baylor in the Elimination Bracket of the NCAA Regionals on Saturday at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
After scoring on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, the Bears sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored six runs. A lead off home run was the first of six hits in the frame, which included an RBI double and an RBI triple, and Baylor led 7-0 going into the third inning.
For Wagner, four Seahawks reached base throughout the contest. Senior left fielder
Lea Rachal stole second base in the first inning, and sophomore pinch runner
Savannah Czornomor reached second after a bad throw from the Baylor shortstop on a fielder's choice, but the Seahawks were unable to bring the runners home. Senior Payton Janichk drew a walk to add a base-runner for the Seahawks.
The Bears scored two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-out single and expanded their lead to 9-0. That score became final after Baylor pitching retired the Wagner bats in order in the top of the fifth.
Despite finishing the tournament 0-2, the Seahawks wrapped up their most successful season in program history. The Green & White finish their 2026 season with their first ever NEC crown, and return to the diamond in 2027 as reigning champions.
