Easton, MA - The Wagner College softball team earned its first conference victory against the Stonehill Skyhawks with a final score of 4-3 on Saturday, April 6.
The Skyhawks jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs. The Seahawks answered back in the top of the second inning with a two-run home run by freshman Sydney Chargualaf.
After no action in the third inning, the Seahawks scored one run in the fourth as junior Kate Wolf drove in a run with a single to left field. The Skyhawks answered back with one run scored in the fifth inning.
Freshman Sydnie Trujillo scored in the top of the sixth inning off of a wild pitch by Stonehill making it a 4-3 game allowing Wagner to take a lead. Freshman pitcher Karson Zavala held Stonehill to no runs in the last three innings of the game leading the Seahawks to a 4-3 victory.
Zavala threw all seven innings of the game, dishing out a career high nine strikeouts.
Next up, the Seahawks will take on Stonehill tomorrow, April 7 in a doubleheader at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
