Trenton, NJ - The Wagner baseball team held off a late surge by Le Moyne to win 8-7 on Saturday and clinch the series victory over the Dolphins.
The Dolphins scored three runs over the final three innings to make it a one run game, but graduate student
Alec Burnett earned his fifth save of the season, pitching the final two innings of the contest.
An early margin for the Seahawks ballooned into an 8-4 lead by the end of the sixth. Seniors
Chris Conniff and
Cole Kumpf hit back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth to put Wagner up 7-4. Then, redshirt senior
Xavier Ulrich collected his second and third RBIs of the day to earn the crucial eighth run.
Earlier on, Ulrich put the Green & White up 2-0 on an RBI single in the first. After falling behind via a three-run homer from the Dolphins, junior
Albert Serrano snatched the lead right back in the next half inning with a two-run blast to left center.Â
Le Moyne tied the game up with another homer in the bottom of the fourth, but the Seahawks took control in the middle innings to earn the balanced victory.
Junior
Connor Hayden earned his team-leading fifth victory after giving up four runs across six innings of work. He struck out six in the affair.
Ulrich joined junior
Mateo Matthews with three hits, while three other Seahawks garnered multiple hits in the win.
The series finale will begin at noon tomorrow at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
