North Easton, MA - The Wagner baseball team fell to Stonehill on Sunday, 4-3, in the series finale. After splitting the doubleheader on Saturday, the Seahawks lost their second of six conference series up to this point in the season.
The afternoon rubber match started off promising as junior Mateo Matthews blasted his fifth home run of the season in the top of the first. An additional run scored via error put the Skyhawks in an early 2-0 hole.
A passed ball scored Wagner's third run of the game in the fourth, but that was all it would get.
While sophomore Ryan Bilka delivered in his six innings of work by allowing just one earned run, an error by the defense allowed the tying runs to score in the sixth. Then in the seventh, Stonehill tacked on the game-winning run and held on the rest of the way.
Freshman Griffin White was dealt the loss. Matthews, junior Albert Serrano and senior Ariv Camacho each garnered multiple hits on the day.
The Seahawks will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Seton Hall at SIUH Community Park. Wagner previously fell to the Pirates on February 27, 15-5.
