Softball Sweeps Midweek Contest Against Saint Peter’s

Jersey City, NJ - The Wagner College softball team defeated Saint Peter's in both games during a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 27, with scores of 16-2 and 6-4. 

Game One Recap: Wagner 16-2 Saint Peter's 

The Seahawks came out swinging in the first game of the doubleheader as six players collected multi-hit games, led by freshman Sydnie Trujillo, who drove in five runs off of a career high four hits. 

In the top of the second inning sophomore Jordyn Dulken earned her first hit of the day off of a double to center field. Dulken went on to collect two more hits throughout the game. 

Freshman Lea Rachal would also double to center field, scoring freshman Sydney Chargualaf, who had singled at the top of the inning. Rachal went on to collect two more hits in game one. 

Chargualaf had an outstanding performance at the plate for the Seahawks, driving in five RBI's off of four hits, as she homered twice in the top of the fourth inning. Junior Justine Carranza earned two hits and sophomore Payton Janicki earned three hits in game one. 

In total, the Green & White collected twenty hits in game one without committing a fielding error. In the circle, freshman Karson Zavala dished out six strikeouts in five innings of work, as she faced twenty batters in her outing.

Game Two Recap: Wagner 6-4 Saint Peter's 

Rachal led the Seahawks in the second game of the doubleheader, collecting three more hits on the day. 

The Green & White rose to an early lead as Chargualaf earned her sixth RBI of the day, sending home Carranza in the top of the second. 

After the Peacocks answered back in the third, freshman Brityn Buchanan earned her first hit and RBI of the day sending home Carranza. 

Janicki earned another three RBI's for the Seahawks, granting Wagner their second victory of the day with a score of 6-4. 

In the circle, sophomore Natalie Rodriguez dished out five strikeouts in seven innings of work, while only giving up one walk and four runs. 

Next up, the Seahawks will host the Merrimack Warriors on Friday, March 29. This series is the home opener for Wagner, as first pitches are set for 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
