Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest to LIU, 14-8 at Hameline Field on Wednesday.
Sophomore Jack Mitchell gave Wagner a 1-0 lead 3:57 into the contest. The Sharks went on to launch a 9-0 run before senior Nick Martini ended the run with 1:20 remaining in the first half.
LIU took a 9-2 lead into halftime.
The Green & White battled back as they launched a 4-0 run to open the second half, cutting the LIU lead to 9-6 with 8:04 remaining in the third. Four different Seahawks found the back of the net during the run as junior's Patrick Caldwell and Ethan Sieb, along with freshman Danny McMahon and sophomore Athan Barmer all scored. After the Wagner run, each team scored one more goal in the third as LIU took a 10-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
Jake Mitchell's second goal of the game brought the LIU lead to 10-8 with 13:32 remaining in the fourth frame, but the Sharks went on to end the game on a 4-0 run to preserve the victory.
Mitchell and senior Nick Martini led the Seahawk attack with two goals each as Mitchell chipped in one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Rudy Zarate stopped 15 shots in the contest.
Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, March 29 when they welcome Siena to Hameline Field at 12:00 pm.
