Hamden, CT - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest at Quinnipiac, 14-8 on Saturday afternoon.
After the Bobcats opened the game on a 4-0 run, Wagner tallied three consecutive goals to tie the game. The run was sparked by two goals from senior Nick Martini and junior Patrick Caldwell. The Bobcats added one more goal in the opening quarter to take a 5-4 lead into the second frame.
Quinnipiac outscored Wagner 3-1 in the second quarter to take an 8-5 lead into halftime. Sophomore Jake Mitchell scored the lone Wagner goal in the second frame.
Both teams found the back of the net twice in the third quarter, graduate student CJ Sweitzer's goal cut the Quinnipiac lead to 9-7 with 5:29 remaining in the frame. The Bobcats added a goal late in the third to take a 10-7 lead entering the final quarter.
Quinnipiac outscored Wagner 4-1 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Nick Martini and Patrick Caldwell combined for four of the eight Wagner goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Rudy Zarate stopped 12 shots in the contest.
Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, March 23 when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to take on Mount St. Mary's at 12:00 pm.
