Teaneck, NJ - The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to FDU, 62-53 on Friday night at the Bogota Savings Bank Center.
In a tight first quarter, the teams traded baskets as FDU took a 13-11 lead into the second frame. Graduate student Taleah Washington and freshman Kiera Edmonds combined for eight of Wagner's 11 first quarter points.
The Knights outscored the Seahawks 20-12 in the second quarter. FDU held a 20-17 lead with 6:18 remaining in the quarter, the Knights proceeded to hit back-to-back three-pointers to push their lead to 26-17. FDU took a 33-23 lead into halftime.
Wagner shot 7-15 from the field in the third quarter while causing six turnovers, but FDU kept the lead for the entire third quarter. The Knights took a 49-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
Wagner got as close as six points with 1:26 remaining in the fourth, but a three-pointer by the Knights with 56 seconds left in the quarter cemented the win for FDU.
Taleah Washington led the way offensively for Wagner with 16 points and six rebounds, Kiera Edmonds also scored in double figures with 13 points on 5-7 shooting from the field.
Freshman Shamique Cummings scored nine points while grabbing seven rebounds.
Wagner will be back in action on Thursday, February 15 when they welcome Saint Francis U to the Spiro Sports Center.TIp-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
