Softball Drops Battle At The Bay Doubleheader

Hampton, VA - The Wagner College softball team dropped its doubleheader at the Battle At The Bay hosted by Hampton University on Saturday, February 17. The Seahawks fell to Hampton in the fifth inning with a score of 8-0. In game two, Wagner fell to Coppin State, 6-8. 

Game 1 Recap: Hampton 8-0 Wagner

The Seahawks collected three hits in game one. Freshman Sydney Chargualaf doubled to left in the top of the third followed by a single from senior Samantha Tran, but the Seahawks were unable to score.

Hampton scored three runs in the first, one in the second and four in the fifth to end the game by a run rule. 

Freshman Karson Zavala was charged with the loss after pitching 4.2 innings with two strikeouts. 

Game 2 Recap: Coppin State 8-6 Wagner 

After one scoreless inning the Seahawk bats woke up in the second inning with four hits, scoring five runs. Junior Justine Caranza led the rally off with a single up the middle. Junior Kate Wolf drove a single to center field sending Senior Brooke Wood home scoring the first run of the game. 

Coppin State answered back in the third with three runs off four hits. 

Wagner would go on to score one more run in the top of the fourth before Coppin State scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Moraga, CA to take on the Saint Mary's Gaels on Friday, March 1.
