Chapel Hill, NC - The Wagner baseball team fell to #15 North Carolina, 16-5, on Saturday at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. It marked the second game of the three game weekend series that the Seahawks entered the sixth inning within striking distance of the Tar Heels.
After allowing six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on Friday to turn a two-run deficit into an eight-run deficit, Wagner allowed five runs in the bottom of the sixth on Saturday to break its 5-5 tie with the Tar Heels.
The Green & White fell in a 5-0 hole early before generating five runs across the third and fourth innings. For the second straight game to start his career, freshman Connor Roche drove in the first run for the Seahawks. RBIs from senior Chris Conniff and graduate student David Melfi concluded a three-run third.
The next inning, with the bases-loaded, Conniff delivered a two-RBI single into left field to tie the game up at five. But the nationally ranked Tar Heels responded to the upset hungry Seahawks in the next inning.
The Seahawks will conclude their series with the Tar Heels on Sunday, February 18. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
