Women's Basketball Set For Road Matchup At Iona On Tuesday

New Rochelle, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team will head to Iona for its fifth game of the 2024-25 season. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm at the Hynes Athletics Center on Tuesday, November 26. 
 

The Return Of Fabozzi

On 13 separate occasions a player from the NEC has scored 20+ in a game this season, graduate student Julia Fabozzi has accomplished the feat twice after scoring 21 against Northeastern. Fabozzi is third in the NEC in points per game (15), third in rebounds per game (5.3), and second in blocks per game (1). Fabozzi became the ninth Seahawk ever to make 12 free throws in a game on Friday.
 

In the season opener, graduate student Julia Fabozzi set a career-high in points with 22. Fabozzi finds herself third in the NEC in points per game with 15. Fabozzi only played seven games last season after missing most of the year with a knee injury.
 

The Emergence Of Angelie Ricard

Junior Angelie Ricard scored 21 points on five three pointers and corralled five rebounds in the win against Saint Elizabeth. Ricard led Wagner with 10 points against Seton Hall before grabbing a career-high seven rebounds against Northeastern. The Orford, Quebec native is tied for tenth in the NEC in points per game at 10.3.
 

The Supporting Cast 

Sophomore Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor set personal bests in points scored, rebounds, and blocks in 19 minutes against Saint Elizabeth. Modesayor has recorded a block in every game this year, rejecting two shots in the season opener against the Eagles. Modesayor finds herself a top in the NEC in blocks per game with 1.25.

Graduate student Raneem ElBarky has grabbed at least five rebounds in every game this season.

Fabozzi, Modesayor, and ElBarky are each in the top 10 in rebounds per game in the conference.

Freshman Keana Foz is seventh in the NEC in assists per game at 2.8. Foz became the second Seahawks since the 2023-24 season to record seven or more assists in a game against Saint Elizabeth.
 

Seahawks Amongst The NEC

Wagner holds the most blocked shots per game in the NEC with 3.25 blocks per game. As a team, the Seahawks have blocked 13 shots across their four games. Wagner holds its opponents to an average of 68.3 points per game, the third best mark in the circuit. Wagner holds opponents to a 25.9% success rate from beyond-the-arc, which ranks 72nd nationally and second in the conference.
 

Scouting Iona

​​Iona enters this contest with an 0-4 record. Most recently, the Gaels fell to the Charleston Cougars by a score of 77-41 in New Rochelle. Senior Judith Gomez leads Iona with 8.3 points per game and sophomore Joey Ward followed close behind with 8 points per game.
 

The Series

Tuesday's meeting marks the ninth between Iona and Wagner. Last time, the Gaels secured a 67-55 win over the Seahawks on November 27, 2023 at the Spiro Sports Center. In that game, Iona guard Ella Fajardo led the Gaels with 11 points with seven assists and two steals.
 

What's Next

After their matchup with the Geals, the Seahawks will travel to Miami, FL for the FIU Thanksgiving Classic from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1. Wagner will face-off against FIU on Friday before playing either Abilene Christian or Sacramento State on Sunday.
