Bridgewater, NJ - Wagner College women's cross country sophomore Laura Trenado has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) athlete of the week for her performance at the Stony Brook Invite on opening weekend.
The Stony Brook Invite saw both the men and women's teams compete. The men's side ran a 6k race, while the women's side a 4k race. The women's team finished tied-fourth place, with Fordham, out of seven teams.
Leading the charge for the Seahawks was Laura Trenado. The Madrid native ran the 2.55 miles in 14:41.9, averaging a pace of 5:45.9 a mile. Trenado finished the event in fifteenth place overall, out of seventy-four possible participants. She was also the first sophomore to finish the race.Â
Compared to season's Stony Brook Invite, Trenado improved seven spots and shaved thirty-five seconds off her overall time. Trenado is coming into this season after being named to both the 'All-Conference Team' and 'All-Rookie Team'. She has also been tabbed as an NEC Prime Performer for the week.Â
Trenado is the first member of the women's cross country team to receive the honor since Alexis Binova back on October 16th, 2012.
Next up, both the men's and women's teams will roll into Brookville, NY for the LIU Invite on Saturday, September 9th.
