Norfolk, VA - The Wagner baseball team completed the road sweep against Norfolk State with a 6-3 victory on Sunday. Juniors Ariv Camacho and Chris Conniff spearheaded the offense in the win by providing five of the team's six runs.
After the Spartans took a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning, the juniors took over. A pair of RBI doubles from the duo allowed Wagner to claim its first lead of the game.Â
Norfolk State tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning, but Camacho and Conniff continued to produce in the sixth.
A double down the left field line off of the bat of Camacho scored two runs. Conniff then singled in Camacho to put the Seahawks ahead, 6-3.
That score would stand in large part due to freshman Ryan Bilka's performance on the mound.
The two-time Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week continued to impress in his debut season with 4.2 shutout innings in relief. Bilka allowed just four hits and struck out five batters, earning the win in the process.
Sunday's win keeps Wagner in front of Fairleigh Dickinson for a first round bye in the NEC Tournament. A crucial three-game series against LIU will begin on Thursday, May 18 at 3:00 pm.
