Jersey City, NJ - The Wagner baseball team dropped its second non-conference game in two days on Wednesday, losing to Saint Peter's, 16-11.
Just like Tuesday's game against Villanova, the game was in Wagner's control until a pair of big innings from the home team made the margin too large.
Senior David Melfi singled in two runners in the third inning to take a 2-1 advantage, but the Peacocks scored six runs in the next half inning to take a 7-2 lead. They added on two more runs in the fourth to put the Seahawks down for good.
The Green & White did look to be assembling a comeback in the fifth inning, however, when Melfi cleared the bases on a double to deep center field.
But even as the margin moved to two runs, Saint Peter's put together another rally as it scored five runs in the sixth. Saint Peter's scored a run in each of the next two innings as well.
Junior Chris Conniff, senior Garrett Bugarin and sophomore Xavier Baker scored runners in the ninth, but the deficit was too large to overcome as Wagner lost its second game in two days.
The Seahawks will aim to get back in the win column this weekend when they travel to Albany, NY to take on the Great Danes.Â
