Troy, NY - The Wagner baseball team split its doubleheader against Albany on Friday. The Seahawks dropped the first game, 5-3, and won the second game, 12-1.
The Seahawks were victims of a walk-off home run in the seven-inning first game.
Trailing 2-0 early, senior Griffin Selby tied the game up in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded single to left field. The next inning, redshirt junior Xavier Ulrich earned Wagner its first lead with a single through the right side of the infield.
All the while sophomore Frankie Wright delivered six, four-hit innings.Â
But as junior Nicholas Hanson came into the game for his seventh save of the season, the Great Danes hit a walk-off home run to snatch game one.
In game two the Green & White got off to a fast start and never looked back.
Senior Cody Bey hit a first inning two-run home run before sophomore Mateo Matthews doubled the lead in the second inning with a two-run blast of his own.
In the third Selby added to his RBI total on the day with a double to right center.
The Seahawks continued to score, recording a run in each of their first five innings on offense. Senior Maimu Kobayashi, junior Chris Conniff and Bey each collected RBIs in the fourth. In the fifth, senior DiMaggio Cazares made it 9-0 with an RBI single.
Meanwhile on the mound, sophomore Connor Hayden continued his hot streak. He logged a third quality start in five appearances and moved to 7-0 on the season.
Freshman Ryan Bilka was awarded the three-inning save.
Wagner will be back in action on Sunday, April 30 at noon and will be looking for the series win.Â
