Staten Island, NY - The Wagner baseball team dropped its series finale against Central Connecticut State, 5-2, to move to 8-4 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
This was the first conference series loss of the season for the Seahawks.
Sophomore Frankie Wright turned in another quality start, his third of the season, in the loss. He allowed three runs on four hits while striking out seven batters. Wright was effective but was hurt by the long ball as Central Connecticut State connected on two home runs to go up 3-1.
The run from Wagner followed the first home run by the Blue Devils. Senior DiMaggio Cazares hit a single through the right side of the infield to score senior Cody Bey in the fourth inning.
While the road team responded in the sixth with their second home run of the game, the Seahawks were able to keep the deficit at one run. Junior Chris Conniff singled in Cazares to make it a 3-2 ball game.
Heading into the ninth inning the Seahawks trailed by only one run, but a two-RBI double from Elliot Good put the Blue Devils up by three, which was too large of a deficit for the Green & White to overcome.
Sitting at 8-4 in conference play, the Seahawks' next chance at moving up the leaderboard will come on Thursday, April 6 at 3:00 pm against Merrimack.
