North Andover, MA - The Wagner baseball team secured its ninth Northeast Conference (NEC) victory with a 9-4 win over Merrimack on Thursday.

The Seahawks were aided by the long ball in the first of three games against Merrimack.

After seniors Dante Faicchio, DiMaggio Cazares and Griffin Selby put the Green & White ahead in the second and third innings, it was Selby who produced the first home run.

In the top of the fifth inning Selby blasted a three-run home run to left center to put the Seahawks ahead 7-2. Two batters later Cazares added onto the lead with a solo shot over the left field fence.

Merrimack responded with two more runs, but the Seahawks had inflicted enough damage offensively to cruise to the victory.

The Warriors struggled to make a run against sophomore starter Connor Hayden. After giving up three runs across seven innings in his last start, Hayden effectively hurled 5.2 innings to secure his second straight victory. 

Junior Nicholas Hanson threw 3.1 no-hit innings in relief to earn the save.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
