Staten Island, NY - The Wagner baseball team was dealt a tough loss on Wednesday, losing to Seton Hall for the second time this season, 14-5.
A ten run first inning did the Seahawks in. The Pirates scored right from the jump as they produced seven runs before their first out. They finished the inning with nine hits.
Despite the difficult first inning, Wagner settled down to outscore Seton Hall 5-4 the rest of the way. Senior Griffin Selby broke the scoreless drought in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double.Â
Senior Dante Faicchio added to the Seahawks' run total with an RBI single in the seventh inning. Sophomore Christian Peluso then singled in freshman Zack Kent in the eighth inning to give Wagner its fifth run of the contest.
Overall the Seahawks got on base — generating eight walks to go along with eight hits — but it was too big of a deficit to overcome.
Junior Chris Conniff extended his on-base streak to 33 games with two hits and two walks.
Wagner will aim to get back in the win column this weekend against Sacred Heart. The two teams are currently tied for third place in the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings.
The first of three games is set to be played on Friday, April 21 at 3:00 pm in Fairfield, CT.
