Staten Island, NY - The Wagner baseball team suffered a 7-1 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sunday.
The Hawks struck sophomore Frankie Wright early as they tallied four runs in the first.Â
Wright finished the outing with six earned runs, but a bright spot for the starter was a career-high nine strikeouts.
Freshman Ryan Bilka relieved Wright for the final three innings, allowing no runs on five hits.
The offense failed to generate runs. The lone RBI came from senior Cody Bey in the third inning on a single to left field.
This was just the second Northeast Conference (NEC) series loss for Wagner. It will look to move back up the standings next weekend against Sacred Heart.
Before the Seahawks battle the Pioneers, however, a rematch against Seton Hall will take place on Wednesday, April 19 at 3:30 pm.
The last time Wagner faced Seton Hall was on March 29 when they lost 8-5.
