Women’s Basketball Drops Home Contest Against Maryland Eastern Shore

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's basketball team suffered a 72-50 home loss to Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center.

The Green & White shot 29.8 percent from the field in defeat. Junior Semie Brar led the team in scoring with 15 points, but the Hawks controlled the contest from the jump with a wire-to-wire win.

Maryland Eastern Shore outscored the Seahawks 22-4 in the paint in the first half and led by as much as 26 in the first half.

The tides looked to shift early in the third quarter as the Seahawks took a 14-6 advantage into the media timeout. Freshman Kiera Edmonds paced the spurt with six points, while graduate student Taleah Washington and Brar contributed three points a piece.

But the shooting woes continued as the Hawks retook a sizable lead — one that wouldn't shrink below double digits the rest of the way.

Wagner fell to 2-7 with the loss, while Maryland Eastern Shore climbed above .500 at 6-5.

Up next for the Seahawks is the Hawk Classic in Philadelphia, PA. They will take on UAB in the opening round of the four team tournament on Wednesday, December 20 at 1:00 pm.
