Four Wagner Athletic Programs Achieve Perfect APR Rating

Staten Island, NY - In a report released by the NCAA Tuesday, four Wagner athletic programs achieved perfect APR ratings for seasons through the 2020-21 academic year. The four teams were men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, and women's lacrosse.

As part of the Northeast Conference (NEC), the league tied for 10th among the 32 NCAA Division I conference in four-year APR concluding with the 2020-21 academic year. The conference's collective 986 APR during that frame set a league record and bettered the national average of 984.

Bryant led the way with eight teams achieving a 1,000 APR, followed by LIU with five, and Sacred Heart, Saint Francis U, and Wagner with four apiece.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance of each team in every sport.

The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21 academic years.

Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for remaining eligible and 1 point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

The Academic Performance Program has established an essential framework for academic excellence. The program provides measurable goals to ensure schools are fulfilling their commitment to equipping student-athletes with the tools and resources necessary to achieve academic success.
