URBANA, M.D. – The Wagner College men's golf team began its season with a tenth-place finish at the Carpetbagger Classic, hosted by Binghamton at the Worthington Manor Golf Club.
The Seahawks finished in tenth place out of 16 competing teams, carding a 23-over par 599 (305-294) following two rounds of action.
Freshman Guillermo Ochoa Valencia led the Seahawks, recording a 6-under par 138 (70-68) and picked up six birdies to finish in second place, one stroke behind the leader.
Senior Alavid Melo Iturralde tied for 41st place with a 6-over par 150 (79-71). A 10-over par 154 (78-76) landed freshman Cooper Joyce tied for 61st place. Sophomore Daniel Cassidy tied for 74th, finishing the weekend with a 13-over par 157 (78-79).
Junior Chris Solari and freshman Juan Martinez (IND) both tied for 90th place carding a 20-over par 164 (85-79), and a 20-over par 164 (82-82) respectively.
"Memo is the hardest worker on our team and deserves every bit of this result "said head coach Frank Gargano. " He was in complete control of his game all weekend and the sky is the limit for what he can achieve during his collegiate career and beyond. We are proud to have him as a Seahawk."
The Seahawks are back on the course on Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14 for a two-day tournament at the Shark Invitational hosted by LIU at the Brookville Country Club in Old Brookville, New York.
