Guillermo Ochoa Valencia Named NEC Men’s Golfer of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — After a dominant performance to open the spring season, freshman Guillermo Ochoa Valencia was named NEC Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Competing at the Carpetbagger Classic over the weekend, Ochoa Valencia delivered a career-best showing, finishing atop the field with a two-round total of six-under par 138.

Ochoa Valencia opened the tournament with a two-under par 70, carding five birdies on the round to position himself near the top of the leaderboard after day one. He followed with an even more impressive performance in the second round, firing a four-under par 68, highlighted by a stretch of consistent scoring and key birdies down the back nine. Across the 36-hole event, Ochoa Valencia finished under par in both rounds while recording multiple birdies and limiting mistakes throughout.

His efforts not only secured the second top individual finish of the tournament but also marked the best performance of his collegiate career to date, establishing him as one of the NEC's early-season standouts.

In earning the first weekly honor of his career, Ochoa Valencia becomes the first Seahawk to receive NEC Men's Golfer of the Week since Lucas Moreno in April 2017.
